Dentist Instructions

Once you have your password by email and can log in, you come to the control panel page. Here you have the option of creating a new patient record, or editing an existing one from the patient list. Don't forget to save any changes you make before leaving (if you want them saved). Switch over to patient view and click 'print this page'. Make sure you are in LANDSCAPE view and have access to a colour printer. The page should normally print on an A4 (UK or US Letter). If in doubt check with print preview.

Did you make a mistake with your email address? The welcome page told you what address was used. A genuine address is necessary to avoid fraud, and any updates and important information will be sent to this address (including any lost or forgotten passwords). If you have made a mistake, please contact us with the details by email. Your mail program may mark unknown incoming mail as 'spam', so look in your spam folder.

If you copied and pasted your password into the password box, you may have included a space at the beginning or end. Check your email address is correct and the password is in the correct case and no extra spaces included. In case of continuing difficulties, please contact us by email giving full details. You can change your password only once you have logged in. Try asking for a new password (forgotten password link), but in this case you must specifty the exact practice name you used to register

Also you must have a unique email address: bill@mysite.com is fine for Bill, but no good for Fred using bill@mysite.com. Fred needs fred@mysite.com to have his own patient list. If you use a common practice email address (such as info@tendentists.com), only one dentist can be registered with this email address. So if you want all the dentists to share this address, they will share the same password and patient list.

In dentist view you have the patient's right on your left. You can print this page for your own use but the patient view is better for the patient. In dentist view you can edit and save the dental record. There are various possibilities: remove teeth by double clicking on them; click on the interdental spaces and then choose a brush colour. If you remove a tooth by accident, you can click on its space to restore the tooth. Once satisfied, update the record. You can update, change patient or go back to the control panel from this page, or switch to 'patient view' to print off the patient's record.

Simply double click on the tooth. You can reset the missing tooth by single clicking on its space (Hint: Its name is shown on hover).

Click on the tooth gap's 'OK', then select the colour you want from the list. You can change colour in the same way. Remember, nothing is saved until you click the save or update buttons! If the space is invisible, click where the 'OK' should be for this gap and the space with be outlined. You can then choose a colour from the list.

Remember when patients have a missing tooth and/or teeth, normal toothbrushing will always leave plaque on the mesial and distal tooth surface by this space. You should prescribe, therefore, a large size brush to clean each surface.

Once you have selected a gap you can keep on changing the colour by selecting from the list. The selected gap is outlined when you click on it.

Patient view is the passive view that you print off for your patient to use at home. You cannot make changes to the record from here. Switch back to dentist view first to update the record. Remember to set your printer to LANDSCAPE format before printing the page.

First make sure the option LANDSCAPE is selected. (The default is often PORTRAIT.) This is set by the browser in 'PAGE SETUP' of the file menu. Make sure you have a colour printer available with paper and ink. The record should occupy one A4 (or US legal) page. Click the "PRINT THIS PAGE" button to print the page, or use your usual browser options. You need a modern browser (minimum IE8) to print the images correctly. If they are ragged you may still be using IE7. Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera all perform correctly.

Check the settings for your browser in 'PAGE SETUP'. Some browsers don't automatically show the background colours and images in print preview (Chrome and Firefox). Make sure you check the box 'print images and backgrounds'.
